Fashionista to First Mate: Meghan's Story

Meghan, aka “First Mate Meg," has spent over 25 years weaving her vibrant spirit into the world of fashion. As the creative force behind Meghan Fabulous, she has built a legacy of colorful, bohemian designs that she calls "wearable art," crafted to make women feel special, confident, and, of course, fabulous. Now, as Captain Steve’s partner in life and business, she’s trading her design studio for the open sea, embracing his dream of sailing the world while carrying her artistic vision to new horizons.

Meghan’s journey began in Southern California, where her mother, a 6th-grade teacher, introduced her to sewing at age four. Together, they crafted clothes that sparked Meghan’s lifelong passion for design. By six, she owned her first sewing machine, and would drape quilts over herself and dream up ways to replicate their intricate patterns. Growing up in Orange County, the ocean’s turquoise hues and natural beauty left a lasting imprint, and butterflies—symbols of her late mother—becoming a recurring motif in her work. Her designs reflect this connection to nature with bright floral prints and a "high-end hippie cool" aesthetic inspired by the Grateful Dead’s Shakedown Street community.

At 24, a setback forced Meghan to reinvent herself. After losing the right to use her own legal name commercially, she found inspiration on a beach, beading Grateful Dead t-shirts into dresses. When someone said “You can’t give up, just change your name.” Taking that sentiment to heart, she started to think of a new name, knowing It would have to be something fabulous. Thus, Meghan Fabulous was born. From that day, she channeled her tenacity and resilience into building a brand that radiates joy and confidence. Her clothes—funky, feminine, and timeless—blend bold patterns and flattering cuts, designed to empower women of all sizes. From her high end Boheme collection to affordable accessories, her pieces are versatile, pairing effortlessly with jeans or shining as statement pieces. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Sharon Stone have donned her designs, and her work has graced the pages of Vogue Japan, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar.

Since 2018, Captain Steve has been her business partner, serving as CEO of Meghan Fabulous and bringing structure to her creative empire. Together, they’ve nurtured her vision through all the ups and downs that the last 7 years have brought. Meghan’s studio in El Segundo buzzes with her eclectic energy, filled with vintage haute couture and inspirations from icons like Elsa Schiaparelli and Iris Apfel. Her designs, with their intricate embellishments and thoughtful details, are as singular as she is, embodying her mission to make every woman feel beautiful.

Now, Meghan is stepping into a new role as First Mate Meg, joining Captain Steve on his dream to sail the world. Trading runways for ocean waves, she’s embracing the adventure with the same passion she brings to her art. Some Tuesday has become her new canvas, where the turquoise waters and natural beauty of the sea inspire her as much as her childhood coastline. She and Steve have spent 7 years working to fulfill her dream of bringing Meghan Fabulous to the world. Now, in this new chapter, she’s returning the favor, bringing to life Steve’s dream of sailing around the entire globe.
